Weekly disk hygiene reclaims the Data volume on a schedule and supersedes manual-approval reclaim for its safe list

Observed 2026-09-20 05:05 AEST on Zappo (macbook-pro-3).

The disk-full class recorded in lessons/2026-09-11-disk-full-broke-cron-ledger-monitor-watched-sealed-volume.md now has a scheduled counter, so reclaim no longer waits on manual approval for its safe list.

  • Job weekly-disk-hygiene (id 04f00d207f17, 30 4 * * 0, no_agent: true, deliver: local, script weekly_disk_hygiene.py) was created 2026-09-19 and ran 2026-09-20 04:30:56.
  • That run moved /System/Volumes/Data from 15.42 GiB free to 20.93 GiB free, a reclaim of 5.51 GiB: npm cache cleaned, pip cache purged, uv cache cleared, 10 stale update snapshots older than 3 days removed, 162 rotated logs older than 7 days removed, 59 camera sweeps older than 14 days removed.
  • It refuses to touch ~/.cache (codex-runtimes, model weights), state.db, the monthly backup, recent sessions, and the main sessions.json. Thresholds in the script are conservative because it runs unsupervised.
  • Latest state: ~/.hermes/state/guards/disk_hygiene.json. Live df -h /System/Volumes/Data at 2026-09-20 05:10 AEST reads 188 GiB used of 233 GiB (90%), 21 GiB free.

Rule: before proposing manual deletions on the Data volume or telling Dwayne that reclaim needs his approval, read ~/.hermes/state/guards/disk_hygiene.json for the last run and its reclaim. The 2026-09-11 note "deletion is not automatic; it needs approval" still applies to the large rollback artifacts (HA daily backups, pre-update zips), not to the regeneration-safe list above.
